YOUR ATTENTION IS DIRECTED TO ADMINISTRATIVE MESSAGE 04-0950, DATED
APRIL 16, 2004. THAT MESSAGE ADVISED THAT CBP CONTINUOUS BOND NUMBERS
WILL SOON INCLUDE ALPHA AS WELL AS NUMERIC CHARACTERS.
PROGRAMMING FOR THE CHANGE TO ALPHA-NUMERIC CONTINUOUS BOND NUMBERS HAS
BEEN COMPLETED. FOLLOWING IS THE ACTUAL FORMAT OF NUMBERS YOU MAY SEE
IN THE FUTURE:
THE TOTAL BOND NUMBER LENGTH IS 9 CHARACTERS, BROKEN DOWN AS:
POSITIONS 1-2 ALWAYS NUMERIC, REPRESENTING THE DISTRCT WHERE FILED.
POSITIONS 3-4 ALWAYS NUMERIC, REPRESENTING THE CALENDAR YEAR FILED.
POSITIONS 5-8 CAN BE ALPHA OR NUMERIC. THIS REPRESENTS THE SEQUENCE
NUMBER FOR THE BOND. ALPHAS WILL ONLY BE ASSIGNED WITHIN A DISTRICT/
YEAR WHEN ALL POSSIBLE NUMERICS FROM 0000 THRU 9999 HAVE BEEN EXHAUSTED.
POSITION 9 ALWAYS NUMERIC AND IS A SYSTEM-ASSIGNED CHECK DIGIT.
AT THIS TIME, NO ALPHA NUMBERS HAVE BEEN GENERATED, AND NONE ARE TO BE
GENERATED UNTIL ALL NUMERIC SEQUENCES WITHIN A DISTRICT/YEAR DESIGNATION
ARE EXHAUSTED.
QUESTIONS SHOULD BE DIRECTED TO YOUR CLIENT REPRESENTATIVE, OR TO THE
PILOT BOND CENTRALIZATION TEAM AT THE NATIONAL FINANCE CENTER -
CASEY HORN (317-614-4484) OR TOM SCOTT 317-614-4502.
