On April 3, 2017 CSMS# 17-000189 was issued notifying the trade of a problem with trucking companies’ Standard Carrier Alpha Code (SCAC) being deactivated. Research identified the cause of the change was a software deployment on Sunday April 2, 2017 which changed how SCAC expiration dates were looked at, at the time of manifest creation.

Of the 58 examples CBP has received, some of the SCACs were deactivated in error and we are working now to correct those. We are also working with the National Motor Freight Traffic Association (NMFTA) to identify the full list of impacted carriers to fully fix the problem for the carriers who haven’t yet realized their SCACs are deactivated. However, some SCACs were deactivated because the SCAC is truly no longer active with the NMFTA in which case, we will not be reactivating the accounts until the SCAC is again valid with NMFTA.

If you are one of the affected carriers and you have a valid registered SCAC, please reach out to your assigned client rep to have your account re-activated. If you find that your SCAC code with NMFTA has expired, please work with that organization to re-issue your SCAC before contacting CBP. To renew a SCAC code, carriers should log into their accounts at www.nmfta.org.
