BACKGROUND:
THE OFFICE OF THE UNITED STATES TRADE REPRESENTATIVE (USTR)
HAS INSTRUCTED THE U.S. CUSTOMS SERVICE THAT THE BEER DISPUTE
WITH CANADA HAS BEEN SETTLED AND WE SHOULD CEASE COLLECTING 50
PERCENT DUTIES.
ACTION:
1. EFFECTIVE AS TO MERCHANDISE ENTERED OR WITHDRAWN FROM
WAREHOUSE ON OR AFTER AUGUST 5, 1993, SUBHEADING 9903.22.03,
"BEER MADE FROM MALT THE FOREGOING THE PRODUCT OF THE
PROVINCE OF ONTARIO, CANADA (PROVIDED FOR IN HEADING
2203.00.00)," IS DELETED. ALL IMPORTATIONS OF BEER OR MALT
BEVERAGES THAT ARE PRODUCTS OF THE PROVINCE OF ONTARIO,
CANADA, ENTERED OR WITHDRAWN FROM WAREHOUSE FOR CONSUMPTION
ON OR AFTER AUGUST 5, 1993, WILL BE ASSESSED AT THE RATE OF
DUTY PROVIDED FOR IN HEADING 2203.00.00.
2. USTR HAS INFORMED THE CUSTOMS SERVICE THAT IT IS NO LONGER
REQUIRED TO MONITOR BEER AND MALT BEVERAGES IMPORTED INTO
THE UNITED STATES FROM CANADA. THEREFORE THE REPORTING
PROCEDURE OUTLINED IN INSTRUCTION 2205071, DATED JULY 24,
1993, IS TERMINATED.
