THE ANIMAL AND PLANT HEALTH INSPECTIONS SERVICE OF THE
DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE HAS ADVISED THE CUSTOMS SERVICE THAT
CANADIAN POTATOES MAY NOW BE IMPORTED WITHOUT A CANADIAN
PHYTOSANITARY CERTIFICATE AND THE IMPORTER WILL NO LONGER BE
REQUIRED TO HAVE A USDA IMPORT PERMIT.
THE CHANGE TO 7 CFR 321.9, PERMITTING THE ABOVE, BECAME
EFFECTIVE WITH ITS PUBLICATION IN THE FEDERAL REGISTER DATED
MARCH 2, 1994, VOL. 59, NO. 41, PAGES 9917-9918. THE REVISION
READS AS FOLLOWS:
7 CFR 321.9 IMPORTATION OF POTATOES FROM CANADA.
POTATOES GROWN IN CANADA MAY BE IMPORTED FROM
CANADA INTO THE UNITED STATES FREE OF
RESTRICTIONS, EXCEPT THAT POTATOES GROWN IN
NEWFOUNDLAND AND THE LAND DISTRICT OF SOUTH
SAANICH ON VANCOUVER ISLAND OF BRITISH COLUMBIA
MAY NOT BE IMPORTED.
