RE : AMENDMENT TO 19 CFR 10.175(E)(2), ADDING THE BAHAMAS
PASS TO: IMPORT SPECIALISTS AND OTHER INTERESTED PARTIES SUCH AS
BROKERS AND IMPORTERS
YOU WERE NOTIFIED IN EMAIL NOTICE 5038071, DATED FEBRUARY 7,
1995, THAT PRESIDENT CLINTON HAD TERMINATED THE DESIGNATION OF
THE BAHAMAS AS A GSP BENEFICIARY. THE BAHAMAS IS A MEMBER OF THE
CARIBBEAN COMMON MARKET (CARICOM) AND PRIOR TO ITS TERMINATION AS
A GSP BENEFICIARY, IT AND THE OTHER MEMBERS OF CARICOM WERE
TREATED AS ONE COUNTRY FOR PURPOSES OF THE GSP.
A FINAL RULE WAS PUBLISHED IN THE FEDERAL REGISTER OF APRIL 12,
1995 (60 FR 18542) AMENDING 19 CFR 10.175(E)(2) TO INCLUDE THE
BAHAMAS. THE EFFECT OF THIS AMENDMENT IS TO CLARIFY THAT GOODS
OF A CURRENT GSP BENEFICIARY THAT IS ALSO A CARICOM MEMBER MAY BE
SHIPPED TO THE UNITED STATES THROUGH THE BAHAMAS AND STILL BE
CONSIDERED TO BE IMPORTED DIRECTLY, PROVIDED OTHER APPLICABLE
REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS ARE MET.
