RE : TAIWAN HOLIDAYS - NONTRANSMISSION OF ELVIS DATA
WE HAVE RECEIVED A LIST OF NATIONAL TAIWAN HOLIDAYS FOR 1996 DURING
WHICH TIME TAIWAN WILL NOT TRANSMIT ELVIS DATA. THE DATES ARE AS
FOLLOWS:
JANUARY 1,2; FEBRUARY 18, 19, 20, 21, 22; MARCH 29, 30;
APRIL 3, 4; JUNE 20; SEPTEMBER 27, 28; OCTOBER 10, 25, 26, 31;
NOVEMBER 12; DECEMBER 25.
THIS HAS NO EFFECT ON THE VERIFICATION PROGRAM. IF THE DATA HAS NOT
BEEN TRANSMITTED BY THE TIME THE ENTRY IS SUBMITTED TO CUSTOMS THEN IT
WILL SHOW AS NOT MATCHED (N) IN THE SYSTEM.
TAIWAN IS EXPECTED TO TRANSMIT THE DATA PRIOR TO THE ONSET OF THEIR
HOLIDAYS BUT IMPORTERS SHOULD BE AWARE OF A POSSIBLE PROBLEM. IF THE
DATA HAS NOT BEEN TRANSMITTED, THEN THE SHIPMENT WILL BE TREATED AS ANY
OTHER WHERE THERE IS A NO MATCH FOR THE VISA AND THE SHIPMENTS WILL NOT
BE RELEASED.
THESE RULES APPLY TO ALL COUNTRIES PARTICIPATING IN THE CUSTOMS
ELECTRONIC VISA VERIFICATION PROGRAM.
IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ON THIS MATTER PLEASE CONTACT HOWARD DUCHAN
AT (202) 927-0639.
