SUBJECT: MOST FAVORED NATION STATUS FOR THE KINGDOM OF
CAMBODIA/DEMOCRATIC KAMPUCHEA
ON SEPTEMBER 25, 1996, PRESIDENT CLINTON SIGNED INTO LAW HR 1642
(PUBLIC LAW NO. 104-203), WHICH MAKES PRODUCTS OF CAMBODIA
ELIGIBLE FOR MOST-FAVORED-NATION (MFN) TREATMENT BY THE UNITED
STATES ONCE CERTAIN CONDITIONS ARE MET. ON OCTOBER 4, 1996, THE
UNITED STATES AND CAMBODIA SIGNED A BILATERAL TRADE AGREEMENT
CONTAINING RECIPROCAL MFN OBLIGATIONS.
THROUGH AN EXCHANGE OF WRITTEN NOTICES OF ACCEPTANCE OF THE TERMS
OF THE AGREEMENT BY THE TWO PARTIES ON OCTOBER 25, 1996, THE
PARTIES BROUGHT THE AGREEMENT INTO FORCE. THEREFORE, PRODUCTS OF
CAMBODIA ENTERED, OR WITHDRAWN FROM WAREHOUSE FOR CONSUMPTION, ON
OR AFTER OCTOBER 25, 1996 WILL BE GRANTED MFN BY THE UNITED
STATES.
