RE: SHRIMP TRADE EMBARGO/ADDITIONAL COUNTRY CERTIFICATION
PASS TO: ALL NATIONAL IMPORT SPECIALISTS, IMPORT SPECIALISTS,
ENTRY OFFICERS, INSPECTORS, FP AND F OFFICERS AND
IMPORTER AND BROKER ASSOCIATIONS
IN A LETTER FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF STATE, DATED JANUARY 14,
1997, CUSTOMS WAS INFORMED THAT NIGERIA HAS BEEN ADDED TO THE
LIST OF COUNTRIES WHICH HAVE BEEN CERTIFIED BY STATE AS
HAVING AN ACCEPTABLE SHRIMP HARVESTING PROGRAM. THE LIST OF
CERTIFIED COUNTRIES NOW TOTALS FORTY UNDER THIS PROGRAM
(RECENT ADDITIONS WERE HONDURAS IN AUGUST, THAILAND IN
NOVEMBER, CHINA IN DECEMBER OF 1996 AND NOW NIGERIA AS OF
JANUARY 14, 1997).
ACTIONS:
1. ADDITIONAL COUNTRY CERTIFICATION
EFFECTIVE JANUARY 14, 1997, NIGERIA IS ADDED TO THE LIST OF
COUNTRIES CERTIFIED BY THE STATE DEPARTMENT AS UTILIZING AN
ACCEPTABLE METHOD OF SHRIMP HARVESTING. THEREFORE, NO FOREIGN
GOVERNMENT CERTIFICATION WILL BE REQUIRED ON THE DSP-121
FORM ("SHRIMP EXPORTER'S/IMPORTER'S DECLARATION") FOR
IMPORTED SHRIMP HARVESTED BY NIGERIA.
2. FILING OF SHRIMP DECLARATION FORM
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE DSP-121 FORM MUST STILL BE ON FILE WITH
THE IMPORTER PRIOR TO HIS SUBMISSION OF THE CUSTOMS ENTRY
FOR ANY SHRIMP IMPORTATION.
3. QUESTIONS CONCERNING THIS ISSUANCE
QUESTIONS BY THE IMPORTING PUBLIC CONCERNING THIS ISSUANCE
SHOULD BE DIRECTED TO THE DEPARTMENT OF STATE, BUREAU OF
OCEANS AND INTERNATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL AND SCIENTIFIC
