THE RAIL-AMS INTERFACE BECAME OPERATIONAL AT INLAND PORTS
IN NOVEMBER 1996. THERE IS STILL SOME CONFUSION AMONG ABI FILERS AT
INLAND PORTS CONCERNING THE PROCEDURES FOR CORRECTLY TRANSMITTING CARGO
RELEASE DOCUMENTS FOR RAIL-AMS SHIPMENTS. THESE SHIPMENTS ENTER THE
U.S. VIA THE CANADIAN NATIONAL RAIROAD OR THE CANADIAN PACIFIC RAILWAY.
THE SHIPMENTS ARRIVE AT THE DESTINATION PORT BY THESE TWO CARRIERS OR
BY OTHER RAIL OR TRUCK CARRIERS.
ABI FILERS ARE REMINDED TO TRANSMIT THE "V" IT OR 9-DIGIT IT NUMBER,
THE AMS RAILROAD WAYBILL NUMBER, THE RAILROAD MANIFESTED QUANTITY, THE
AMS RAILROAD CARRIER CODE (SCAC), AND THE RAILROAD ISSUER OF MASTER BILL
CODE (SAME AS SCAC) ON THE CARGO RELEASE DOCUMENT. THIS INFORMATION MUST
BE SHOWN ON ALL ENTRIES USING MOT 20 & 21.
THE CORRECT CARRIER CODE AND ISSUER CODE FOR CANADIAN NATIONAL RAILROAD
IS CNRU. THE CORRECT CARRIER CODE AND ISSUER CODE FOR CANADIAN PACIFIC
RAILWAY IS CPRS.
IF FREIGHT ARRIVED IN CANADA BY VESSEL AND THEN IS BROUGHT TO THE
U.S. BY RAIL DO NOT, REPEAT, DO NOT USE THE BILL OF LADING NUMBER OR
CARRIER CODE FOR THE VESSEL THAT BROUGHT THE FREIGHT TO CANADA.
