FROM: OFFICE OF INFORMATION AND TECHNOLOGY, TRADE SUPPORT

WHILE RESEARCHING HOW WE COULD DECREASE THE EXTREMELY HIGH COSTS
INCURRED BY CUSTOMS TO SUPPORT USAGE ON THE DIAL-UP LINES,
WE IDENTIFIED THAT THERE IS EXCESSIVE IDLE TIME ON THESE LINES.
IDLE TIME IS WHEN THERE IS NO ACTIVITY ON THE LINE, NO DATA BEING
SENT OR RECEIVED.
AS A RESULT A DECISION WAS MADE TO DECREASE THE DISCONNECT
INTERVAL TIME.

EFFECTIVE, WEDNESDAY, JUNE 10, OUR SYSTEM WILL DISCONNECT THE LINE
AFTER 64 SECONDS OF NO ACTIVITY.
THIS HAS BEEN DISCUSSED WITH THE ABI SOFTWARE VENDORS AND MANY OTHER
TRADE PARTICIPANTS.
