As announced in CSMS Message 10-000187, the use of Unknown Manufacturer Identification Numbers (MIDs) is no longer permitted effective September 15, 2010.

Unknown Manufacturer Identification Numbers(MIDs)are NOT to be used to report manufacturer(or supplier)in ACE Entry Summary transactions. Entry Summaries reporting unknown MIDs may be rejected by ABI or port personnel. Updates to the ACE Entry Summary Instructions document and the ACE CATAIR have been made.

The ACE Entry Summary Instructions reflecting this change has been revised and will be posted to the CBP website as Version 2.3 in the very near future. The document can be located at:
