On September 28, 2010 the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) at the Department of the Treasury published a final rule (75 FR 59611) prohibiting the commercial and non-commercial importation of certain foodstuffs, carpets and textiles beginning September 29, 2010.

Effective September 29, 2010, the commercial importation into the United States of the following Iranian-origin items is prohibited:

(1) foodstuffs for human consumption that are classifiable under HTS Chapters 2 through 23; and,

(2) carpets and other textile floor coverings and carpets used as wall hangings that are classifiable under HTS Chapter 57 or number 9706.00.0060.

Non-commercial importation of the above referenced items of Iranian origin is also prohibited as of September 29, 2010 unless authorized by OFAC.

Imports of household goods and personal effects are allowed on or after September 29, 2010 provided they are imported in compliance with 31 CFR 560.201 and applicable CBP regulations.
