Title:FDA examinations in Los Angeles
Date:2011-01-28
To:abi

This message is intended for trade participants who file FDA entries in the port of Los Angeles. In order to expedite the FDA examination process for designated exam-required entries, filers are strongly encouraged to transmit FDA data at the lowest reportable level. This means that, for commodities that may be classified under a single HTS number, but whose preparation or manufacture results in different "processed" goods, the filer is required to break out the goods at the “processed” level when transmitting the data to FDA via the ABI system.

The entire shipment must be held in one location. This will ensure that the shipment is fully available for FDA examination and will enable FDA to perform a more rapid field examination and inventory. Reporting the data at the lowest "processed" level will also enable a speedier segregation for those items found to inadmissible for entry into the United States.
