On November 9, 2011, a Federal Register Notice (FRN), 76 FR 69755, was published announcing U.S. Customs and Border Protection's (CBP) plan to conduct a pilot test of Simplified Entry (SE) for the Air Mode of Transportation. Among the criteria set forth in the Notice, trade members were advised that applications must be received by November 17, 2011 and that due to Paperwork Reduction Act (PRA) requirements, only 9 participants would be selected to participate in the pilot.

A total of 40 applications were received in response to the referenced Notice. CBP would like to thank everyone who responded to the FRN and submitted applications to participate in the pilot test. Of that total, CBP has selected 9 applicants who met all of the selection criteria set forth in the Notice.

CBP is in the process of notifying qualifying applicants of their selection to participate in the Simplified Entry pilot test. Once all applicants have been notified, CBP will conduct a meeting of all the participants and will determine next steps for pilot implementation. CBP will issue another CSMS message to announce the commencement of the pilot test. Any future expansion of the test, the timing of submission of the data, or messaging between filers and CBP, will be announced via a separate Federal Register notice.
